Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

You will be met at the International Airport of Dar Es Salaam by your Driver/Guide and our representative. We will take you to the Holiday Inn in Dar Es Salaam for overnight

Day 2: Dar Es Salaam-Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast pick up from the hotel for your drive to Selous Game Reserve (Driving some 5-7 hours). Arrival in the afternoon. Meeting with your lodge manager and discuss your exact programme. In afternoon you go on first game drive or walking tour at Selous: Overnight at Rufiji River Camp. All meals included

NB. If you prefer to fly from Dar Es Salaam into Selous there is a supplement of 175 USD P/P

Day 3: Selous Game Reserve

Full day of game drives at Selous Game Reserve named after the explorer Frederick Selous. The Selous Game Reserve is the largest protected wildlife reserve, a UN World Heritage site and a pristine uninhabited area larger than Switzerland. The topography of the park varies from rolling savannah woodland, grassland plain and rocky outcrops cut by the Rufiji River and its tributaries. Activities are game drives, a walking safari and a boat trip at Rufiji River.

Day 4/5: Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast you proceed to Northern Selous for 2 full days of safari activities, It has the world’s largest number of big game – elephant, buffalo, rhino. It also contains wildebeest, eland, giraffe,waterbuck, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion. There are about 350 species of bird life. You go on game drives, another boat safari and again on a walking tour.

Day 6 to 7: Mikumi National Park

After breakfast departure to Mikumi National Park nestled between the Uruguru Mountains to the East and the Rift Valley Escarpments to the Southwest. As it is close to the Selous ecosystem and therefore part of it, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. The Mikumi National Park obtains a good impression of the African animal world and is suitable very well for a short visit. There is a rich variety bird species as well as large numbers of giraffes, buffaloes and elephants and close to the water holes also lions, leopards and hippos. Furthermore you can see zebras, lions, wild dogs, pythons, hartebeest, wildebeest, elephants, impala, warthog, eland and other antelopes. Several observation towers enable you to overview the park in its entirety. Mikumi National Park is mostly miombo woodland with gently rolling hills. Activities are game drives and a walking safari

2 x overnight in Vuma Hill Tented Camp or Stanleys Kopies. All meals included.

Day 8: Udzungwa Mountain National Park

Departure for Udzungwa Mountain National Park. Afternoon arrival at the park, half day of hiking and bird-watching in the pristine rain forest: hiking towards the Sanje waterfalls for spectacular views of the wide Kilombero Valley. Pls note that the hike can be quite strenous. If you prefer you can also walk towards a Rubber Plantation and learn about the process to produce natural latex.

Overnight in the Udzungwa Forest Camp (Accommodation in a en suite luxury tent). All meals included

Day 9: Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, depart for Ruaha National Park (long drive of some 7.8 hours via Mikumi and Iringa). In the afternoon we reach the lodge constructed on and around a rocky kopje overlooking the Great Ruaha River. The Lodge provide comfortable accommodation and good food while blending into its surroundings to enable visitors to feel themselves a part of the wild. Both the dining “Banda” and the bar, in elevated position above the river combine comfort and coolness together with the most spectacular views.

Day 10/11:Ruaha National Park

Two full day game drives at Ruaha National Park with picnic lunch. Ruaha, with an area of 10,300sq.km. Is the second largest park, and second largest elephant sanctuary in Tanzania. The great Ruaha River that flows along its entire eastern border, creating spectacular gorges and scenery, features a large number of hippos and crocodiles. The wide variety of animals include Greater and Lesser Kudu, roan and sable antelope. Bird life is rich, with over 370 species recorded.

Day 12:Ruaha-Dar Es Salaam

After a last morning game drive and lunch you depart for Ruaha Airstrip for your flight back to Dar Es Salaam. for extension or your flight back home. (Depending on your departure time we can arrange airport transfers and dayroom against a supplement). Breakfast and lunch included

If you prefer you can drive back to Dar Es Salaam which will take 2 days with an overnight at Iringa Town. Then some sightseeing in Iringa (Isilimia Stone Age Site, Neema Crafts Cooperation) can be arranged. Reach back to Dar Es Salaam on Day 13 late afternoon. This option would reduce your package cost with some 200 USD pP. Pls ask for this routing if this is interesting for you.

This itinerary can be extended with a nice relaxing stay at Zanzibar. Pls ask for further infos.
